Umar Farooq is a Civil Engineer and Ph.D. student in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Michigan State University. His research centers on geotechnical engineering, with a focus on optimizing the gradation of unpaved road materials, evaluating freeze–thaw effects on their performance, and utilizing geotextiles to improve roadway resilience. He also investigates the hydraulic conductivity of base course materials and its relationship to pavement drainage and buckling. As part of the Geotechnical Engineering Program, Umar has contributed to projects involving bridge pile construction and the advancement of sustainable transportation infrastructure.
