Charan Sai Vangaveeti is a PhD candidate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Michigan State University, where he also serves as a Graduate Research Assistant. His dissertation focuses on improving the performance of gravel roads through gradation optimization, combining extensive laboratory performance-based testing, field monitoring of test sections, and life-cycle assessment (LCA), to develop a robust optimization tool that supports sustainable gravel road design, funded by Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT). His research interests include gravel road performance, soil stabilization, pavement analysis and design, characterization of unbound granular materials, life-cycle cost and sustainability assessments, as well as optimizing material utilization and design approaches. He holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Politecnico di Torino, Italy, and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTUH), India, both of which he earned with distinction. He gained experience as a Research Fellow at the Road Materials Laboratory of Politecnico di Torino, where he worked on several projects involving the characterization of asphalt mixtures and binders, and authored multiple technical reports.
