Syed Faizan Husain is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. His current research supports the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Engineer Research and Development Center (USACE ERDC) and Applied Research Associates (ARA) in developing a prototype mobile platform for rapid measurement of pavement strength and deformation. He recently completed his Ph.D. at Illinois, where he developed a mechanistic sublayer-based analysis framework to quantify the performance of geogrid-stabilized unbound aggregate layers and investigated stress-dependent modulus variations within the geogrid influence zone during the application of repeated loading.
Before beginning his doctoral studies, Syed earned his M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Cincinnati, where he evaluated the cracking resistance and durability of asphalt mixtures for the Ohio Department of Transportation and developed cracking tolerance thresholds to improve quality control and pavement longevity. His research interests include pavement geotechnics, aggregate materials, smart sensing, mechanistic pavement analysis, and the integration of advanced material characterization for a resilient transportation infrastructure.
