I am Tanzila Islam, a Ph.D. student in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Michigan State University (MSU), specializing in geotechnical and pavement engineering. Before joining MSU, I completed both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). I also served as a lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering in University of Asia Pacific of Bangladesh, where I coordinated laboratory management and logistics and actively collaborated with students and faculty to improve experimental facilities.
At MSU, I have been involved in several research projects supported by the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), and the National Road Research Alliance (NRRA), focusing on the performance evaluation of proprietary rejuvenators, base materials, crushed and shaped (C&S) aggregates. My work combines extensive laboratory testing with computational modeling to advance the understanding of pavement resilience under flooding and seasonal variations.
Beyond research, I also contributed as a teaching assistant for undergraduate soil mechanics and engineering materials courses, mentoring students in experimental methods and data analysis. I am passionate about developing sustainable, durable pavement systems and integrating experimental insights with practical design applications.
